UTZ Certification from the Perspective of Cocoa Farmers in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana

Project Overview

This comprehensive study examined the impact and perception of UTZ certification among cocoa farmers in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. The research focused on understanding how certification affects farming practices, income levels, and overall quality of life for cocoa farmers.

Project Objectives

  • Assess the economic impact of UTZ certification on cocoa farmers
  • Evaluate changes in farming practices post-certification
  • Analyze farmers' perception and understanding of certification benefits
  • Identify challenges and opportunities in the certification process

Methodology

The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews. We conducted interviews with over 200 certified farmers across both countries, complemented by focus group discussions and field observations.
